Friends The Friends of the Centre is a group that contributes to the Centre's mission and goals. They assist in the communication of research results, collaborate with researchers in the dissemination of new knowledge about aging, and assist with the various events and awards of the Centre. If you are interested in furthering the quality of life we experience as we age and wish to become involved in projects and activities that relate to the aging process, then we invite you to consider volunteering at the Centre. The time required will depend on your schedule and interests. To become a Friend of the Centre, please complete this online form. The Centre on Aging wants to see that each Friend's skills and needs are matched to an appropriate activity that supports the centre. The following is a list of activities that the Friends will be participating in: • Provide Research Snapshots by summarizing research findings in short easy-to-read articles that are available to a wide audience • Facilitate communication and the dissemination of research and knowledge of aging to the community • Provide assistance with research projects to centre faculty and students • Provide information on the research needs of seniors in the community through dialogue and feedback • Assist with Centre events by helping to organize various activities and research gatherings, other meetings and discussions such as the Applied Research Colloquiam (ARC) 2012. • Assist the University of Victoria's Retirees Association with the Masterminds Lecture Series. • Interview and help select seniors for the Centre's annual Valued Elder Recognition Award. |
